Among the special features included in your Chile experience is a 4-credit gateway course, entitled Contemporary Issues in Latin America (required). Designed to provide a broad overview of culture within the Southern Cone, the seminar introduces you to important political, sociological, and environmental issues in the region—themes that you will pursue through various courses during the semester.
The Contemporary Issues in Latin America seminar is divided into two components: field study (2 credits) and weekly meetings throughout the semester (2 credits), and includes site visits and visiting speakers. The 11-day guided field trip includes travel to urban and rural areas in both Chile and Argentina, including Buenos Aries.
