Option II: Studies at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM)

Option II: Studies at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM)

To qualify for this option, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and two to three years of college Spanish or its equivalent. Students must demonstrate upper intermediate or advanced language proficiency upon arrival in Madrid by passing the SU Madrid Spanish language proficiency test. All lectures, readings, papers and exams are in Spanish.

Study at the UAM works best for academic year students, but is open to semester students who are able to conform to the UAM academic year calendar and regulations. The terms generally run from October into February, and from February into June. “Early exams” are not available.

Following the Mare Nostrum pre-session seminar and before the beginning of the UAM semester, Option II students may audit advanced language classes and other courses taught in Spanish at the SU Madrid Center to prepare for study in a Spanish university environment.

As scheduling permits, Option II students may combine coursework at the UAM with course offerings at the SU Madrid Center.

For Option II students the fall and spring fees are higher to cover additional room costs, because the Spanish university calendar extends beyond that of Syracuse University in Madrid.
