Housing

No other big city and global capital is as stimulating and agreeable a place to live.

You’ll find that London is really a huge assortment of smaller towns, even villages, and that each neighborhood has its distinct personality, style, and charm. Each neighborhood also has its main shopping street or “high street,” full of pubs, grocers, butchers, greengrocers, and corner stores or “shops,” and, of course, residences—flats, townhouses, old (often subdivided) mansions.

Many students will wish to live close to the SU London Program (SULP) in Bloomsbury. Still, easy transportation via the Underground makes all of London a possibility for housing. Rental costs vary substantially from one neighborhood to another.

There are two options for living arrangements:

  • One is the Pre-Arranged Housing option.
  • The other option for students is to rent their own apartments, or "flats." Temporary housing is arranged for you in a hotel during orientation while you are assisted in locating your flat. You’ll receive a list of current vacancies within easy commute from SULP, as well as listings of reliable agencies who have worked with program students for many years. After arrival or during orientation, students are also coached on the do’s and don’ts of signing a lease.

London Program students who choose to find their own flats (independent housing) receive a housing allocation (per diem) from the program fee they have already paid. This amount is based on average rents paid by former London study abroad students. Should you choose more costly living quarters, you must supplement with personal funds. Students are responsible for covering the cost of meals during the semester.
